DeMar DeRozan SG / 6' 7" / 220 lbs / 28 years

3x All-Star / All-NBA 3rd / Rising Star

Strengths

Perhaps the best shooter from inside the arc in the NBA. Good ball handler and can finish through contact. Pretty good passer and playmaker. One of the best dunkers among guards in the NBA, he did win a dunk contest.

-Can cover the 1, 2, and 3 positions on defense -Will fight for rebounding position down low on occasion/makes an effort to box out when under the basket -Long and athletic with a quick first step on offense allows him to get to the rim and finish -Has the length to post up smaller guards/shoot over them (likes to post on both blocks and elbow) -Can play above the rim -Is an effective isolation player. Has the ability to create his own shot by either driving to the basket or creating separation for a jump shot -Has range and can knock it down from three (shooting needs to be more consistent) -Has the ability to be a big time scorer, already is a very good scorer just needs to continue to polish his game

Weaknesses

Derozan isn't the best at shooting threes. Some nights he shoots them at a 40 percent clip, others he's ice cold (but he's working hard to improve that). He doesn't really play defense that well, unless it's a pressure packed situation. He's usually not clutch on offense.

-On defense he sometimes gets caught watching the ball and loses his man (needs to be more aware) -Average defender (needs to work on his all around defense), has the ability and length to be a defensive stopper -Needs to work on his jump shot. Is inconsistent from mid range and three point line -Also needs to have better shot selection, sometimes he forces shots or doesn’t take the easy shot when its there -Needs to get stronger. Has the ability to post smaller guards because of his height, but can’t move them to get better offensive positioning/separation

Overall

He's an all star who is probably going to be in the top five in MVP voting and is one of the reasons the Raptors are first in the Eastern Conference.

DeMar DeRozan is a budding star in this league with a lot of upside. He has the offensive tools and athleticism to take over a game, but needs to work on refining his game. This year he deservedly made the All-Star team and it seems his game will only get better with time. DeRozan has the length and quickness to get by defenders and attack the rim, as well as the athleticism to play above the rim with some spectacular dunks. For a 6’7 guard, he handles the ball very well and can effectively create shots for himself off of isolations. That being said, DeRozan still needs to improve the consistency of his jump shot and decision-making. He sometimes passes up the easy shot to take a more difficult shot. I would like to see him catch and shoot more coming off of picks. On defense he sometimes gets caught watching the ball and forgets his man. He switches well on defense and can guard multiple positions do to his length and quickness. Although he isn’t a great rebounder he will look to box out when the shot goes up. DeRozan also needs to get stronger this will help him at both the offensive end and defensive end. He has the ability on offense to post up smaller guards, but struggles to move them to gain separation. He gets pushed around too often when trying to post. The same can be said for him on defense. He sometimes struggles getting around picks and gets pushed around underneath when trying to rebound.
